Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026
This policy explains what the iPhone app American Mahjong with Friends (“the app”) does with information about you. The app is published by Jackson Jeffries, an individual developer in the United States (“we”, “us”).
The short version
- The app does not send information about you to us.
- There is no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software in the app, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- Your games, stats and settings are stored on your iPhone. If you choose to sign in with Apple, a copy of your progress is kept in your own iCloud account so it can follow you to your other devices. We cannot see it.
- Multiplayer requires a Game Center account. The other players at your table see your Game Center name and the game you play together.
- Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.
Information stored on your device
The app keeps the following on your iPhone:
- Your progress: games played and won, streaks and other game counts, experience and level, achievements, and which table mats and other items you have unlocked or bought.
- Your settings: for example your chosen mat, tile back, card and layout preferences.
- One unfinished single-player hand, so you can continue it later.
- Game reviews: when you finish a hand, the app keeps a record of it so you can review your play (Hand Analysis). Reviews stay on your iPhone, and the app keeps the reviews of your 20 most recent games; older ones are deleted automatically.
- Sign in with Apple details, if you sign in: your name as Apple shares it and the identifier Apple assigns you for this app (see below).
- Your Game Center identity, if you use Game Center: your Game Center player identifiers, name and alias, which the app remembers for multiplayer.
- Purchase records: a record of what you have bought in the app.
None of this is sent to us. It is removed when you delete the app, except for the iCloud copy described below.
Sign in with Apple (optional)
You can play without signing in. If you choose Sign in with Apple, the app asks for your name only — not your email address — if you choose to share it. Apple also gives the app an identifier that is unique to you and this app.
- Your name is stored only on your iPhone.
- The identifier is used to match your progress to your account, so the right progress comes back on your other devices.
- You can sign out in the app's Settings at any time. If you stop using Sign in with Apple for this app in your iPhone's Apple Account settings, the app signs you out.
- If a different Apple Account signs in on the same iPhone, the previous account's progress is removed from that iPhone, so one person's progress is never mixed into another's.
iCloud sync
When you are signed in with Apple, the app saves a copy of your progress — the stats, experience, achievements and unlocked or purchased items listed above — in your own iCloud account. This lets your progress appear on your other devices signed in to the same accounts.
This data is stored by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to it. Your unfinished hand and your game reviews are not synced; they stay on the device where they were made.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer requires a Game Center account, and iOS may ask you to sign in to Game Center when you open the app. Game Center is Apple's service, and your Game Center profile is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Single-player games do not need Game Center.
When you play at a multiplayer table, the other players at that table receive:
- the game you play together: the tiles, the moves and the state of the game;
- your Game Center name and player identifier, so everyone can see who is in which seat;
- when a hand ends, a record of that hand — every player's tiles and moves and the names at the table — so each of them can review it on their own iPhone.
This information is shared only with the players at your table and with Apple, which provides Game Center. It is not sent to us. The app does not post your scores or achievements to Game Center.
Purchases and subscriptions
Table mats and the subscriptions (Unlimited Hosting, Hand Analysis and Premium) are bought through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your payment card or billing details.
Ratings prompt
After you have played a few hands, the app may ask iOS to show Apple's standard App Store rating prompt. Apple decides whether it appears, and any rating or review you leave goes to Apple.
What we do not do
- We do not collect, sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
- The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- The app does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- The app does not ask for your email address.
Information Apple may give us
Like every App Store developer, we can see reports Apple prepares for us in App Store Connect: aggregate download and sales figures and, if you have chosen in your iPhone's settings to share analytics with app developers, crash reports and aggregate usage statistics. These come from Apple, not from the app, and we use them only to fix and improve the app.
If you contact us
If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to answer you. Support email is stored by our email provider. We keep support emails for one year, then delete them.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or advertising. Our hosting provider processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Keeping and deleting your information
- On your iPhone: kept until you delete the app. Game reviews are limited to your 20 most recent games, and only one unfinished hand is kept at a time.
- In your iCloud account: kept by Apple in your iCloud account. Deleting the app does not remove it; signing in again restores your progress.
- With other players: a hand record sent to the other players at a multiplayer table is kept on their devices under the same rules.
- Support emails: kept for one year, then deleted.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages, but it is not directed to children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Game Center and Sign in with Apple are provided by Apple, which applies its own rules to children's accounts.
Your rights
The only personal information we hold is support email you send us. You can ask us to give you a copy of it, correct it or delete it by writing to the address below. Information held by Apple — your Apple Account, iCloud data and Game Center profile — is managed through Apple at privacy.apple.com.
California residents
We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. Neither the app nor this website tracks you across other sites or apps, so they do not respond differently to browser “Do Not Track” signals: there is no tracking to turn off.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom
Jackson Jeffries is the controller of the personal information described here — in practice, only support email. We process it to answer your request, on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing support. Our email provider may process it in the United States. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of it, and to receive a copy of it; write to the address below. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling information differently, we will update this page and change the effective date above before the new version of the app is released.
